Air-Flow and more

from your hygienist in central London

Superior cleaning with Air-Flow technology

At Pro Dental, we’re delighted to offer AirFlow cleaning in central London. Traditional visits to the hygienist involve a ‘scale and polish’, using tools you’re probably familiar with. But with Air-Flow, you can have a high-tech jet polish instead – it’s the dental equivalent of pressure-washing your windows! Completely safe, chemical-free and gentler on your teeth and gums than traditional cleaning tools, Air-Flow combines air, water and a very fine bicarbonate powder into a focused stream that buffs away plaque and stains from teeth and under the gum line. Air-flow is ideal for regular cleaning and stain removal, and as a preparation for treatments such as teeth whitening and Invisalign.

What your London hygienist can do for you

At Pro Dental, our experienced dental hygienists work with our dentists to ensure your smile stays bright and healthy. Not only do they give your teeth a deep clean – which can improve the appearance of your smile instantly – but they will advise you on how to maintain your oral health through proper brushing and flossing. Their advice is especially important for those patients with severe gum problems, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, and for those who have had extensive dental work, such as implants. A hygiene appointment at Pro Dental will always include personalised advice on maintaining a good cleaning routine at home, as well as guidance on diet and lifestyle – we’re qualified to provide help with getting the right nutrition for a healthy mouth, and with stopping smoking too.

Our preventive approach

Our hygienists are crucial to our preventive philosophy at Pro Dental. In maintaining the health of your smile by ensuring plaque and tartar are kept under control, they play a key role in avoiding dental problems that could otherwise prove costly and invasive to treat. The hygienist also provides an extra level of care, so if they notice a problem during your visit, they will be able to flag it and ensure you see your dentist before it becomes more serious. With direct access appointments, you can see your hygienist without needing to see the dentist at Pro Dental – ideal if you want to pop in for a cleaning before a big event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t my dentist do my hygiene check?

Hygienists undertake particular training in this area, meaning they focus on ensuring plaque and tartar are removed from the teeth and from below the gum line, where most damage is caused.

What treatments can the hygienist offer?

The hygienist will carry out a scale and polish – a professional deep clean that removes disease-causing plaque and tartar from under and around the gum line. The hygienist is also qualified to advise you on the latest techniques and products for effective cleaning at home, as well as tips on diet, nutrition and lifestyle issues such as smoking and alcohol intake.

What do I need to know about plaque and tartar?

Plaque and tartar are the key contributors to gum disease and tooth decay. The root cause of gum disease and tooth decay is bad oral hygiene – when you let your regular brushing and flossing slide, a film of bacteria – plaque – builds up around the gum line. Caused by the food that remains on your teeth after eating, plaque eventually hardens to become tartar. Together, they attack the tooth enamel, making gums and teeth vulnerable to disease and decay.

Can I do anything to prevent oral hygiene problems occurring?

Maintaining a rigorous cleaning programme at home is vital if you want to minimise hygienist appointments. Our hygienist will give you advice and tips not only about how to clean your teeth, but also about diet and general lifestyle.

Does it hurt to get a scale and polish?

Not usually, though if your gums are very sensitive the hygienist can use anaesthetic gel to alleviate any discomfort.

How often should I see my hygienist?

If you have good oral health, we generally recommend seeing the hygienist twice a year. If you’ve had dental implants or tooth restorations, you may be required to visit more frequently to ensure plaque is being kept under control effectively around your prosthetic restorations.

Should have done this review months ago when my treatment was finished.

I just want to say a big thank you to Pro Dental. My treatment was smooth, appointments adjustable and the end results amazing. I had braces and my teeth look soo good, I get a lot of compliments.

When I first came across Pro Dental I thought I only will need braces but they advice in on another treatment as well as braces that will give me the look I’m going for. Ending up paying more but so worth it. It weren’t a pushy/hard sale rather advice with great resources and information to make you understand and decide.

I would honestly recommend anyone to Pro Dental (already have told a few), the staff members are lovely and welcoming. Amazing team.

Fantastic experience from start to finish. I'd been considering Invisalign for a while (too long!) and I honestly couldn't have picked a better place than Pro Dental. The service is great, it's easy to book appointments (managing in work hours) and I'm so pleased with my result.
